WHAT WE do

  • Our small character spaces can house art-making, rehearsals, performances, workshops, creative strategy sessions, speaking events, pop-up stores, gatherings, small celebrations, residencies, artist recovery sessions and any other small-scale creative intervention that can be imagined. Ūkaipō is an intimate space that encourages its dwellers to connect and create deeply.

So that we can keep our rates low and ensure that our spaces have minimal clutter, we provide the basics and invite our hirers to bring in any extras they might need.

We welcome all creatives and visionaries to get in touch with us to hire our space.

  • We also produce our own intimate events that reflect our kaupapa of supporting and advocating for local artistry, and providing moving experiences for people to engage with. Keep up to date with what we’ve got coming up on our Upcoming Events page.

  • We have one self-contained guest room privately located underneath our creative spaces that can be booked for short term use. This would be perfect for you if you are an artist from out of town with a show on in Tāmaki, or if you are a local artist simply needing some time on your own to focus.

  • With nearly twenty years of experience working across many areas of the arts sector, Cat has a well developed artist mentor practice that she shares through one-on-one sessions. Whether you’re in need of clarifying your creative purpose, wanting to put solid and strategic plans in place for achieving your goals, or needing hands-on artistic guidance in the studio, Cat can help.

A LITTLE BIT ABOUT US

Ūkaipō is an offering from mother-daughter collaborators Cat Ruka and Lucia Davison (Ngāpuhi, Waitaha, Ngāi te Rangi). Inspired by the iconic live-and-work artist apartments of New York, and important creative havens such as The Good Life Cafe in California, Cat and Lucia hope to provide a space where creative souls from all walks of life can feel at home, where voices can be heard, and where moving and inspirational artistry can be cultivated.

Cat is a leader within the performance arts industry of Aotearoa with almost twenty years of experience working across dance and contemporary performance, arts education, festival direction, theatre venue management and arts advocacy. Lucia is a dancer and actor, can kōrero Māori, and loves kapahaka, fashion and music.

Cat and Lucia are proud to continue their whānau legacy of supporting creative expression and can’t wait to invite you into the āhua of Ūkaipō.
